Therefore, a whole group of footballers performed well at Euro-2024.

Lamine Yamal, Spain

Just a day prior to the final with England, the 17-year-old winger Lamine Yamal, playing for Barcelona, broke several age-related records at the European Championship. First of all, he became the youngest footballer to participate in the European Championship. During the 1st round match with Croatia, Lamine made an assist for Dani Carvajal and became the youngest player to provide an assist at the European Championship. Then, Yamal made two assists during the round of 16 match with Georgia, and two assists during the quarterfinals match with Germany. As a last step, he needed to score a goal to set the record for the youngest player to score a goal. And Lamine did exactly that during the semifinal match with France with a great long shot – from under Adrien Rabiot, who caused a lot of anger to the youngster with a bad remark he made prior to the match.

Dani Olmo, Spain

RB Leipzig midfielder Dani Olmo felt at ease on the football fields of Germany. Although Dani was a substitute player for the Spanish national team during the Euro-2024, he left a huge mark on the tournament. During the 3rd round match with Albania, he was introduced to the starting lineup for the first time and made an assist. In the round of 16, he came off the substitutes’ bench to replace Pedri and scored against Georgia. Dani came off the substitutes’ bench once again in the quarterfinals match with Germany, replacing the injured Pedri in the eighth minute and became the star of the evening: he scored the first goal for the Spaniards and made an assist for the winning goal of Mikel Merino. Rodri, Spain

One of the main stars of the winning Spanish national team has to be included in this list at least because he was officially declared the best player of the tournament. Rodri may have not shown brilliance at the Euros, but he demonstrated his usual quality and controlled the tempo of the Spanish national team in every single match. Regardless of his defensive midfielder role, Rodri managed to score and scored the opening goal in the round of 16 match with Georgia (4:1), which marked the start of the comeback. In total, Rodri spent 522 minutes on the pitch at the tournament and received 3 yellow cards. Unfortunately, there was some drama as well — in the final, the midfielder had to be substituted at halftime due to a knee injury. However, his teammates did not disappoint him and brought home the trophy.

Giorgi Mamardashvili, Georgia

The Georgian national team became the biggest sensation of Euro-2024, and advanced from the group stage to the playoffs. Thanks to the incredible goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, the Georgian national team achieved historic success. Although the Georgians were eliminated in the round of 16, Giorgi became the best in terms of saves at the tournament with 30 saves. In every match, Mamardashvili saved many balls from going into the net. Following this great performance at the European Championship, we expect Mamardashvili’s transfer to a top club. Also, considering his youth for a player in his position, only 23 years old.

Fabian Ruiz, Spain

Prior to Euro-2024, it was impossible to predict that Ruiz would be one of the top players for the Spanish national team at the tournament. Even though the midfielder plays for Paris Saint-Germain, he does not stand out in the French champions’ lineup. However, Spanish national team head coach Luis de la Fuente perfectly utilized Fabian’s strengths. In the opening match with Croatia, Ruiz both scored and provided an assist. In the round of 16 match with Georgia, Fabian scored and provided an assist once again, thus becoming the author of the winning goal against Mamardashvili. In the semifinal match with France, Fabian’s rushes from deep into the penalty area also turned into a problem for the opposing team.

Cody Gakpo, Netherlands

The Dutch national team, which reached the semifinals of Euro-2024, offers a player as a candidate for the best player of the championship. Gakpo was excellent at the tournament in Germany. In the 1st round, the Liverpool forward scored his first goal at the tournament — against the Polish national team. In the 3rd round, he scored against Austria. And the most successful for the orange attack star was the round of 16 match with Romania. Cody Gakpo opened the scoring (and this goal ended up being the winner for the Netherlands), and later assisted Donyell Malen. Cody Gakpo was the best in the Dutch squad for shots on target (8), key passes (12), dribbles (9), and duels won (32).

Pepe, Portugal

The star forwards of the Portuguese national team failed to shine; however, the 41-year-old central defender Pepe, who became the oldest player in Euros history, surprised positively. He is still at the top level. For example, with Pepe on the pitch, the Portuguese conceded only one goal – from the Czechs. Although the “old man” played in four matches, and in two of them, he had to go into extra time. Pepe’s speed at the end of the match with France after substitute Marcus Thuram is especially memorable. How cool he dispossessed the fresh and young opponent! Pepe was the best among the Portuguese for clearances (24) at the tournament.

The best player at Euro-2024 was a different player

Naturally, not all players who could in any way be considered candidates for the most valuable individual award were included in our top. Other players who were very good at Euro-2024 and did not make it into our rating include Spaniard Nico Williams, Englishman Bukayo Saka, Dutchman Xavi Simons, Swiss national team captain Granit Xhaka, and Georgian striker Georges Mikautadze.
