There are stars that are currently contracted to Real, Barcelona, Manchester City, Bayern Munich & AC Milan that will be out of contract in 6 months time.

As we get closer to the start of next year, a significant number of footballers will be free agents. What I mean by that is that footballers that do not renew their expiring contract will be able to talk to other clubs 6 months prior to the expiration of their contract. Some of the players in question are well known.

Luka Modric (AC Milan)

Luka Modric is a veteran midfielder from Croatia and began the season not as a Real player. Luka had never not played for Real before this season. As you may recall, Luka left Real Madrid as a free agent last summer. Before that, he traveled to Japan for the Club World Cup, where he played only a total of 121 minutes on the pitch. Luka needed good playing time prior to the World Cup which is taking place in June of next year.
In the entire previous season, he played 1820 minutes in La Liga. Luka has played 1325 minutes for Milan in Serie A. It appears that both parties received benefits. Luka received the playing time he needed and Milan received a player with loads of experience and media attention. Luka is now 40 years old, and it is possible that he will retire after the current season unless something occurs that changes his mind.

Robert Lewandowski (FC Barcelona)

About a week or two ago, Lewandowski told us that he does not know where he will continue his career. Lewandowski is a free agent in 6 months. He states that a lot will depend on what he wants and what the club wants to do. Lewandowski joined Barcelona in 2022. In the current season, Lewandowski has played only 668 minutes in La Liga. Robert missed some games because of injury and in other games he did not come into the game at all, and in a few instances he did enter the game late. Despite this, Robert continues to perform well. Eight goals in 13 La Liga matches is a good number for a 37 year old. We will be watching Lewandowski the rest of the season to see how he performs and where he will begin next season.

Dani Carvajal (Real)

Dani has been with Real since 2013 and it is difficult to picture him wearing anything else. However, this season Dani has only played 443 minutes. He has been injured. It was reported about a month ago by The Athletic that Real is considering releasing Carvajal at the end of 2025. A lot will depend on how Dani plays the second part of this season. If Real is happy with Dani’s performance, they will sign a new contract. If not, Dani will need to find a new club during the summer. Dani said that he will decide what happens with his future at the end of this season.

Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace)

Last summer, Liverpool were seriously pursuing Marc Guehi, but ultimately failed to complete a transfer for the young English defender. It is probable that Marc Guehi will leave Crystal Palace at the end of the current season as a free agent. A number of top European clubs are interested in signing the 24-year-old, however, according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have withdrawn from the race for Guehi as the clubs could not reach agreement on the financial details of the transfer. Guehi has reportedly been offered better deals from Bayern and Liverpool than from Barcelona.

Guehi has been with Crystal Palace. During that time, he has appeared in excess of 150 appearances for the team in all competitions. By the age of 25, Guehi has already become the captain of Crystal Palace and has made nearly 35 appearances for the England national team. With such a level of experience under his belt, Guehi is certainly ready for the next step in his career; however, it is still uncertain where he will go next in June.

Mike Maignan

It seems that Milan bought Mike Maignan for good reason. In the summer of 2021, Milan purchased Maignan from Lille for approximately €16.4 million. Since then, the French goalkeeper has proven to be reliable in goal. Yes, there are occasional mistakes; however, the positives far outweigh the negatives. AC Milan are working diligently to retain Maignan. They have offered him a new contract with a salary of around €7 million per year excluding bonuses. AC Milan’s administration would like to extend Maignan’s contract until 2029 with the possibility of extending it until 2030.
If Mike Maignan declines the offer from AC Milan, they will begin exploring alternative options to replace the Frenchman.
Maignan has appeared in 19 matches in all competitions this season for AC Milan, has allowed 16 goals and has recorded 9 clean sheets. Such a quality goalkeeper would be beneficial to numerous clubs.

David Alaba (Real)

David Alaba will most likely be leaving Real at the conclusion of the current season. Alaba’s contract with the Madrid based club runs out in 6 months time. About a month ago, Fabrizio Romano reported that Real would not be extending Alaba’s contract. Alaba would not object to continuing his career in Madrid, but Real’s administration have other ideas. This season, Alaba has only played 4 games in all competitions for a total of 145 minutes. Next summer, Alaba will need to determine whether or not he wishes to continue his career with another club. Negotiations can occur early.
