As part of the Sunday program of the 16th round of the 2025/26 Premier League, five matches were played.

Manchester City visited Crystal Palace and secured a convincing victory. The scoring was opened in the 40th minute following a cross from Núñez, which Haaland finished off at the goal line – and on the 69th, Pep Guardiola’s charges doubled their lead. Cherki carried the ball through the center, beating both of the “Eagles’” holding midfielders and laying it off to the edge of the semicircle, from where Foden struck. Right into the bottom right corner. 0:2!

In the 88th minute, Haaland finished off Palace from a penalty, which Savinho had earned. The “Citizens” continued their chase of Arsenal, staying two points behind the Premier League leaders. Moreover, City extended their unbeaten streak at Selhurst Park, which has been ongoing since April 6, 2015. Crystal Palace failed to overtake Chelsea, remaining two points away from the Champions League zone.
Aston Villa arranged a shootout with West Ham. The Birmingham side conceded as early as the 29th second due to Konsa’s error in the penalty area. Matheus Fernandes stole the ball from him and slotted it past Martínez from a tight angle – this goal became the fastest in the current championship.

However, the visitors equalized as early as the 9th minute following a cross from McGinn to Watkins. Mavropanos, in an attempt to hinder Ollie, sliced the ball into his own net. 1:1.
The “Hammers” didn’t fall apart, restoring their lead in the 23rd minute with a shot from Fernandes on the rebound from outside the box. Bowen found himself in the path of the ball’s flight, redirecting it past the keeper. The “Villans” managed to equalize only after the break – in the 50th minute, Rogers received a cross from Tielemans and scored with his second touch into the bottom left. 2:2!

It was Morgan who decided the winner. In the 79th minute, the Englishman exploited a gap in the holding midfield, receiving a through pass from Lindelöf and blasting it from 25 meters – right into the top left corner. 2:3! This goal brought Aston Villa the victory, allowing them to stay one point behind Manchester City. West Ham remains in the relegation zone with a 5-match winless streak.
The Tyne-Wear derby returned to the Premier League – Sunderland hosted Newcastle at the Stadium of Light, but instead of fireworks, the fans saw a rather tedious encounter. In the first half, the teams managed only 4 shots and just 8 touches in the penalty area, which became an anti-record for the current championship.
The only goal came right after the break. It was scored by the “Magpies’” forward – Nick Voltemade. However, the German wasn’t celebrating at all. He sliced a cross from Mukiele into the near corner of his own goal. In the end, Newcastle stayed in 12th place with 22 points, while Sunderland with 26 points overtook Man United and climbed into the top-7 of the Premier League.
Nottingham, meanwhile, arranged a thrashing of Tottenham. Oleksandr Zinchenko spent the entire match on the bench, and the main hero was Hudson-Odoi, who scored a brace and provided an assist. Callum’s second goal was a masterpiece – from the left flank, the winger rifled it into the far top corner.
The honor of finishing off the Londoners fell to Sangaré, who managed a beautiful strike into the top right corner. 3:0! This triumph allowed Nottingham to pull away from the relegation zone by 5 points, while Tottenham has the same 22 points as Newcastle.
The day’s program was closed by the match between Brentford and Leeds. Until the 70th minute, the score remained goalless, although Yorkshire had a clear advantage in shots and chances. Then Henderson opened the scoring, finishing on the rebound after a cross from Henry. 1:0.
Yarmolyuk came on only in the 81st minute, replacing Janelt, and overall had a decent spell. He was very attentive in covering the depth, and the goal conceded in the 82nd minute by Calvert-Lewin wasn’t a result of the Ukrainian’s mistake. On the contrary – it was Yegor who managed to block Ampadu’s shot on the edge of the semicircle, but it ricocheted and allowed a precise cross.
That said, at the very start of that attack, Yarmolyuk should have switched to Ampadu and closed the passing lane altogether, but there were questions for his partner there too. A few minutes later, Yegor also failed to catch up with the 35-year-old Gudmundsson on the flank, allowing him to lay off the ball for Ampadu’s shot, but that was from 25 meters – although it was heading toward the near post.
Overall, Yarmolyuk had a decent 15 minutes. There was more positive than negative. The teams shared a draw.
